Inspired by the words of Mark Twain, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do,” Michelle says that she has “doggedly pursued some elusive fitness goals for the last year, but regardless, I have become such a stronger person through the process.”

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. – Mark Twain
All of my life I have had the propensity to turn the color of bologna when running, and had a body that generally encouraged me to be a couch potato. Even though I love the outdoors, and have tried really hard to be athletic, I have historically shied away from exercising in public. I had been whining to my good friend Jill Correll (fellow FGFer) that despite my exercise DVDs, I had no energy and essentially a marsupial pouch. She insisted, and somehow convinced me that I could do a FGF class with her. I’ve been hooked ever since.
Day 1: Intimidation. Panic. I’m going to kill Jill. I’m going to drop this on my head.
Month 2: Imposter syndrome. Someone is going to find out that I don’t belong here.
Month 4: OMG. No one has found out. How did this happen? Someone just said “Nice work” and they were talking to ME.
Month 8: I just did a HSPU and didn’t break my neck. Everyone stopped to watch. Dani cheered. High fives all around. Yay! I’m here to stay!!!
I can do a couple of kipping pull-ups now!!!!! Go me!!!!!
Health – Take a few hours each week to chill. Typing on my computer does NOT count as recreation.
Fitness – Master double-unders. I’m soooooooo double-under challenged. I can dance (despite what my kids say), rub my stomach and pat my head, but I have yet to string together two double-unders. They will be the death of me.
Not in any particular order… 1. My family. 2. The onset of wrinkles. 3. The babies and kids I work with who have bigger challenges than I could bear. 4. FGF girls.
Box jumps (They make me feel like Spiderman).
OH Squats. It’s like all the evil forces in the universe conspired to design one exercise to specifically point out all of my weaknesses.
Don’t stop. Leanne is doing this. So is Jackie. Whoa, look at how much Ann is lifting. Oh crap… Savhanna is walking over here - she saw me. Pick up the damn bar Michelle.
The workout, the coaches, the ladies there. I would never work this hard on my own. Ever. Or have as much fun doing it!
I think I’m a bit more confident now with physical endeavors. It has reinforced to me that there is so much to gain from the simple presence of a challenge. I have doggedly pursued some elusive fitness goals for the last year, but regardless, I have become such a stronger person through the process. Even though I may not think something is possible, I have now repeatedly proven myself wrong. Strength for me is increasingly a state of mind.
I am busy. I try to cook from scratch, eat clean and buy organic. I help medically fragile babies thrive. I love to read, ski, hike, and get outdoors. I run a pediatric clinic, home health agency and early intervention program serving 350 kids. I’m mom to three soccer girls (8, 11, 12), have a neurotic dog, and a patient husband.
Swedish fish. Sour patch kids. It’s ridiculous. No self-control whatsoever. Could even be an illness.
I’m Canadian. I hate being the center of attention and consequently drugged myself on my wedding day. I’m vegetarian, and make phenomenal BBQ tofu. I have also been known to throw down some old school Salt-n-Pepa to punish my children.
Never ever ever give up. You are awesome and inspiring someone right this very second!
